This project aims to develop MetaBelgica – a Linked Data platform of Belgian entities shared between Belgian Federal Scientific Institutions (FSIs) in the cultural heritage sector. We will integrate millions of Belgian entities from the four participating FSIs, make them accessible in a shared platform and provide persistent identifiers for these entities. Like this, we will provide trustworthy and interoperable reference data of high quality.

This project studies the untold history of literary translation flows in Belgium between French and Dutch in the period 1970-2020. BELTRANS examines the link between intra-Belgian cultural transfers and the mutual knowledge and perception of each other’s culture in a period of increasing regionalisation of the state, which caused a growing distance between Belgium’s linguistic and cultural communities.

The Royal Library of Belgium (KBR) has launched the BESOCIAL project, a two-year project that aims to set up a sustainable strategy for archiving and preserving social media in Belgium. The challenge is equally complex as the data: social media are challenging from the point of view of conservation, preservation and accessibility. This is due to their uniqueness and ephemeral nature in particular.

Complicated rules, multiple contact points, numerous forms and applications and three administrative levels: processes as common as home renovations in Flanders require a lot of manual administrative work. To streamline customer journeys and simplify processes, municipalities and other public organizations would benefit from e-government applications. However, implementing these solutions is challenging, considering the lack of well-structured content and the need to integrate legacy systems. FAST aims to tackle the challenges to e-government adoption by creating an engine to automatically generate customer journeys from existing unstructured content – the ideal collection of digital interaction points between public services, organizations and citizens – for a range of public tasks.

Media companies in Flanders today have fragmented consumer data, with each company maintaining its own data management platform. As a result, data remains largely undervalorized. The EcoDaLo project aims to develop a knowledge platform for publishers allowing the integration of many diverse data sources. It will also define a business model for cooperative data products that complies with regulations and guarantees data ownership and privacy protection. These outcomes will lead to increased scale and thus competitiveness of local media companies, a healthier media ecosystem and a framework for other sectors in need of new ways of leveraging data.

The purpose of the LEAPS project is to develop a self-learning analytics system for adaptive learning. This support system can be integrated into assistive software for struggling readers, supportive software for professional communication, and educational games. In the consortium, partners with a wide range of expertise will work together, including statistics, computer, educational and cognitive sciences, human-computer interaction, software engineering and educational publishing. This highly interdisciplinary collaboration will help create a much needed and marketable solution.
