This presentation introduces the field of Cultural Heritage to ICT students of the Odisee University of Applied Sciences. It focuses on research work at the Royal Library of Belgium as well as on Linked Data technologies.

In this webinar for the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) I argue for structured Linked Data-ready data in library catalogues. This serves as a single source of truth and eases further steps towards Linked Open Data for example for the Belgian Bibliography.

In this presentation at a study day on the Visual Name Authority project of the Flemish archiving institution meemoo, I talk about possible data governance for the MetaBelgica project. I do this by referring to data governance of the Gemeinsame Normdatei (GND) in German-speaking countries and recent research.

In this presentation at the first Conference on Research Data Infrastructure, I present the MetaBelgica project for the first time to the public. Four Federal Belgian institutions join forces to collaboratively maintain authority data and make them available as FAIR data.

This presentation briefly introduces the field of cultural heritage and then provides many examples of FAIR and Open Data in the field of cultural heritage. Such as bibliographic Linked Data from national libraries, existing APIs for platforms such as Europeana, information about the IIIF standard or digital heritage such as web and social media archives.

Use your data to achieve something! You will likely encounter data quality issues… We present data quality procedures at the Royal Library of Belgium, how the BELTRANS project revealed more subtle issues, and our developed Librarian-In-The-Loop workflow to semi-automatically improve data quality.
